Like the female reproductive system, the male reproductive system is essential to the perpetuation of life. The female is dependent upon the male for fertilizing her egg so a baby can begin to grow inside the uterus.
A man's reproductive system is made up of the penis, scrotum, testicles, vas deferens, epididymis, seminal vesicles, and prostate gland. The testicles are contained in and protected by the scrotum, where they can maintain a cooler temperature as compared to the rest of the body (a cooler temperature is conducive to sperm production). The testicles are also responsible for making the hormone testosterone. Testosterone is the hormone that causes men to develop facial hair, deep voices, big muscles, etc. Testosterone is a vital component of the male reproductive system; without it, men wouldn't be able to make sperm and reproduction would be impossible.
Why is the male reproductive system important?
Reproduction itself is the process by which organisms produce more organisms like themselves. All living things reproduce; that is, without reproduction, families would die out and the human race (in addition to all other living matter) would cease to exist. Without the male reproductive system, a woman's egg would not be fertilized and there could be no perpetuation of life.
